Hi-ARTS, El Barrio’s newest art space, curates tonight’s Speak Up! Drawing from its community of artists, Hi-ARTS asks — What does it mean to belong to a community or multiple communities? How does one belong or (dis)-belong? Experience humor, hubris, and hardship from talented storytellers including Lemon Andersen; Kelly Tsai performing excerpts from her solo show “Formosa”; author, educator and Hip-Hop activist JLove Calderón; the cast of East Willy-B with a screening of the web series, and others. There will be a brief talk-back with the artists following their presentations.
About Hi-ARTS
The mission of Hi-ARTS is to support Hip-Hop as a vibrant urban art and culture movement by nurturing the creation of innovative work within the Hip-Hop aesthetic, presenting and touring artists whose work addresses the socio-political issues relevant to the Hip-Hop generation, and serving young, urban communities through outreach and education.
