Cambodia is already famous for its creations: principally the temples of Angkor and their masterful sculptures and the delicate carvings that adorn each wall. Today, as a more sophisticated group of artists and craftspeople emerge, modern creations playing on traditional themes and iconography are also garnering attention.
Opportunities for artists to support themselves through creativity have emerged in the past decade as international interest in Cambodia as a cultural hub has heightened. Foundations and organizations have worked closely with local artists and entrepreneurs in Cambodia to use locally sourced materials in order to revive and preserve the country’s rich tradition of craftsmanship.
The craftspeople showcasing their work in Season of Cambodia are breathing new life into the country’s oldest treasures, and establishing Cambodia as a place known as much for its contemporary as for its ancient artifacts.
