This year’s conference, which adopts the NYC subway system as a metaphor for relaying the progression of Asian Americans, will be held on Saturday, April 27th at the New York University Kimmel Center (60 Washington Square South). Planned by students from various universities in the NYC area – including New York University, Columbia University, Barnard College, Hunter College, Baruch College, and The City College – the conference consists of a broad range of engaging workshops and panels intended to encourage attendees to think critically about Asian American issues. Registration is entirely free, breakfast and lunch will be provided, and there will be a talent show highlighting up-and-coming Asian American performers.
Our keynote speaker this year is award-winning journalist and activist Helen Zia, who has covered social and political movements of the Asian American community for the past thirty years. Her range of work is deeply rooted in civil rights advocacy, as noted in her involvement in the landmark anti-Asian violence Vincent Chin case of the 1980s. Other speakers and performers in attendance this year will include CNN-featured comedienne Jen Kwok, “Yellowface” playwright David Henry Hwang, Youtube performer Joseph Vincent, and many other prominent and influential Asian Americans.
