Professional Asian-American actors in the classic musical comedy HELLO, DOLLY! in the heart of NYC’s theatre district? Naturally! After all, this great American musical is for all Americans, and National Asian Artists Project (NAAP) is giving it a new and unique voice. After sold-out NYC performances of OKLAHOMA! (2011) and CAROUSEL (2012), NAAP now tackles another Broadway classic in a bigger venue, the new Frank Gehry-designed Pershing Square Signature Center on 42nd Street. The team is lead by director Lee Roy Reams (director of the 1995 Carol Channing Broadway revival), choreographer Randy Slovacek, musical director Kevin Farrell, and NAAP founders Baayork Lee, Steven Eng, and Nina Zoie Lam. And with a cast of 20 of some of NY’s most talented Asian-American actors who have appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and throughout the U.S., this is an important step in opportunities for Asian-American actors to demonstrate that a great show only needs great people.
But putting up a production in full costume and staging on a great New York City stage is crazy expensive, especially for a two-nights-only benefit event. There are costs of the theatre, costumes, props, cast, music, crew, rehearsal studios, and so much more. So we need your help.
We’re still a very young company, but we have ambition and an important mission as our foundation. So be a part of this rare event, and help us continue to enrich the American theatre!
