Job Description
The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, an accredited post-secondary acting school, seeks a Director of Operations with a strong customer service orientation, a good work ethic, strategic vision, and attention to detail. You must be able to multi-task while assisting in the day-to-day functioning of our school/studio activities.
The Director of Operations is responsible for the leadership and supervision of the School’s physical plant operations and security, including the management of facilities, designated support services, room scheduling, and budgets. The Director serves as a liaison with casting studio clients and building maintenance personnel to ensure needs are met in an effective and customer friendly manner.
Among other things, you will:
• Manage and monitor the School physical plant and assigned support services to ensure their effective and efficient operation. Oversee daily operation of facility, including computer systems, telephones, studio equipment, mail delivery; purchase supplies as needed to assist faculty, staff, and students. Manage vendor relationships. Arrange for duplication, security, and custodial services.
• Serve as liaison with casting studio clients to ensure needs are met effectively. Assist in the development of casting studio procedures for utilization of space/equipment by collaborating with faculty and staff, and document processes appropriately. Implement policies, ensure compliance, and approve exceptions to policy.
• Train and supervise office operations staff and facilities coordinators including prioritizing activities, monitoring performance, and authorizing expenditures. Also, train and supervise evening and weekend supervisors. Supervise and assist staff in maintaining cleanliness and security of facilities.
• Supervise and manage room scheduling in accordance with established procedures. Provide assistance to faculty, clients, and staff (Registrar, Director of Education) needing schedule information.
• Ensure access to and security of facility. Responsible for security of facility, people, and equipment. Respond to emergency situations within the facility. Establish general security and fire safety procedures for the School and studios.
• Prepare and track the budget for the Operations Department.
• Coordinate/plan/execute renovations to School and studio facilities. Engage and monitor contractors on premises.
Position Requirements
• Great customer service skills!
• 3-4 years’ facilities management/operations experience, preferably in a higher education or casting studio, theater/film/TV environment
• Supervisory experience in building and leading a team.
• Some knowledge/experience with AV equipment.
• Ability to work independently and to think strategically.
• Reliability, punctuality, multi-tasking, good sense of humor, willingness to learn new skills and follow directions, ability to function in a sometimes fast-paced environment
• Working knowledge of budgets and proficiency in Mac media applications and PC MS Office Suite including MS Access.
