NYCCC recently transformed its large studio into a white-box studio with portable sound, lighting systems, seating risers and a performance space of 20’x 40′ with a seating capacity of 70 – 90. The inaugural season features works-in-progress and new dance works by Kevin Ho & Ching – I Chang, Nico Li and a dance film by Chisa Hidaka & Benjamin Harley.
The 60-minute program includes a three-part work titled Endorphin by Nico Li, who explores the ideas of juxtaposing the planned and organic in movements and different facets in our lives. An experimental piece Parenthetical)(Reposedirected by Kevin Ho & Ching-I Chang emphasizes the discipline of dance-improvisation, the rigor of our awareness, and the agency of the solo-self against the bio-collective intelligence of the group. The program will also feature a screening of the films of the Dolphin Dance Project, directed by Chisa Hidaka with Benjamin Harley, that feature underwater dances co-created by wild dolphins and human dancers in the open ocean. The program will include “Together: Dancing with Spinner Dolphins,” which won Best Experimental Film at the Big Apple Film Festival and Best Animal Advocacy Short at the Artist Festival.
