6pm-8pm EST on May 31st
The White Rabbit (145 E Houston Street)
The Launch Party will feature a live musical performance by MayDay Radio, delicious cupcakes from Baked by Melissa and some tasty beverages from Bacardi, among other fabulous surprises! Registrations for Shootout continue until 8pm the night of the Launch Party and teams often form literally just before and after the theme is announced – it is an exciting time!
The72 Hour Shootout, which began 9 years ago as a small competition by local filmmakers, has grown into a worldwide filmmaking competition with celebrity judges like Russell Simmons (2012) and David Henry Hwang (2013) and network executives like Marci Phillips of ABC (returning judge!) and Dan Smith of FOX Japan (new for 2013). The Shootout is all about EMPOWERMENT – creating opportunities for Asian Americans and other entertainers of color and helping our communities to collaborate, network and grow, allowing filmmakers of color to take proactive steps to empower themselves and eachother.
The Film Lab could not do any of this without our sponsors, who go above and beyond to support our diversity in film initiatives. A few sponsors we want to give a special shout out to are: AsianinNY.com, AAARI-CUNY, Asian CineVision, Bacardi, Baked by Melissa, Equinox, Executive Wear NY, The Actor’s Connection, The Korea Society, The ManhattanChamber of Commerce, The Museum of Chinese in America, Mayday Radio, MyJennyBook, Tu-Na House, and, of course our official Shootout venue for 2013: THE WHITE RABBIT! A complete list of sponsors can be found here.
We are also delighted to announce that the Film Lab and SAG-AFTRA have entered into a formalized agreement enabling SAG-AFTRA members to more easily participate in the 2013 72 Hour Shootout™ competition (the “Shootout”), a worldwide filmmaking competition
