Summer Intensive Course for Teens (Grade 7 – 12)
The Japan Foundation, New York, in cooperation with The Nippon Club, is offering a summer intensive course to young people who are interested in Japanese culture – anime, manga, j-pop, fashion, etc. – and in learning the language to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture and/or improve their existing skills.
Students in grades 7 through 12 as of Fall 2013 are eligible. Four classes are available based on level of proficiency. The main textbook is Marugoto: Japanese language and culture, developed by The Japan Foundation.
Early registration is highly recommended as classes fill up quickly or may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.
A1-1 Introductory Japanese:
Monday through Friday, July 8 until July 19 – 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. (10 sessions)
For complete beginners.
A1-2 Introductory Japanese:
Monday through Friday, July 22 until August 2 – 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. (10 sessions)
For those who have completed A1-1 Introductory Japanese or equivalent and can read and write hiragana and katakana.
A2-1 Elementary Japanese:
Monday through Friday, July 8 until July 19 – 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. (10 sessions)
For those who have completed A1 Introductory Japanese courses or equivalent and can read and write simple words and sentences using hiragana and katakana.
A2-2 Elementary Japanese:
Monday through Friday, July 22 until August 2 – 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. (10 sessions)
For those who have completed A2-1 Elementary Japanese or equivalent, and can read and write simple words and sentences using hiragana, katakana, and basic kanji.
