Come join CAAAV – Organizing Asian Communities in a screening of YURI KOCHIYAMA: PASSION FOR JUSTICE, a documentary by Pat Saunders and Rea Tajiri about the life and work of Yuri Kochiyama. Kochiyama is a Japanese American woman whose long history of activism spans more than 40 years in Harlem through the Black Liberation Movement, the struggle for Puerto Rican independence, and numerous other social justice campaigns. Through extensive interviews and archival footage, this film chronicles Kochiyama’s remarkable accomplishments and vision.
The documentary screening will be followed by a panel discussion on the legacy of Kochiyama for API activism and organizing today. Special guests include the Kochiyama family, Iris Morales, Jamal Joseph, and others TBA.
Doors open at 6pm and dinner will be served.
Suggested donation: $10. All proceeds will go towards supporting CAAAV programs.
