Jia Zhangke’s Cannes Best Screenplay Award Winner Opens on Friday, October 4 at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas and IFC Center
On behalf of Kino Lorber, you are invited to a screening of A TOUCH OF SIN, the bold new feature from celebrated Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke (THE WORLD, STILL LIFE, 24 CITY). Winner of the award for Best Screenplay at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, the film will receive its North American premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival followed by screenings at the New York Film Festival. It will open theatrically on Friday, October 4 at the Lincoln Plaza Cinemas and IFC Center, followed by a national rollout.
A TOUCH OF SIN is a scathing portrait of modern China and the violent impact (and hefty human sacrifice) of the Chinese economic boom on its own citizens. Following four characters from different provinces, the film tells the story of a miner (Jiang Wu) as he revolts against corruption, a migrant worker (Wang Baoqiang) who finds possibility in a gun, a receptionist (Jia’s wife, Zhao Tao) at a sauna assaulted by a rich client, and a young factory worker (Luo Lanshan) desperate to improve his situation. With stories drawn from real-life Chinese headlines, Jia Zhangke has made an angry, gritty, gorgeously shot drama that traverses the lurching superpower from Shanxi coalmines to the gaudy brothels of Dongguan.
