The Village Voice announces the first round of spirits set to be participating in their newest event, “The Village Voice Holiday Spirits” on Thursday, December 5th, 2013. The date commemorates the 80th anniversary of the day that ended the Prohibition era.
First round of announced spirits include Atsby Vermouth, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur, Breuckelen Distilling, Brooklyn Gin, Catskill Distilling Company, Cooperstown Distillery, Death’s Door Spirits, Dutch’s Spirits, El Buho Mezcal, Greenhook Ginsmiths, Jack from Brooklyn, Long Island Spirits, Nahmias et Fils Distillery, Owney’s Rum, Tirado Distillery, Tuthilltown Spirits and more to be announced soon.
Some highlights of this year’s local distilleries include Nahmia et Fils Distillery, based in Yonkers, NY serving Mahia Fig Brandy, a traditional Moroccan spirit distilled from figs and Atsby Vermouth, based in Manhattan serving Atsby Armadillo Cake Vermouth with vintage Chardonnay from North Fork infused with over 30 botanicals, fortified with NY State apple brandy and sweetened with rare Muscovado sugar.
Highlights of the Brooklyn-based distilleries include Jack From Brooklyn serving hot Sorel Artisanal Liqueur, Owney’s Rum, serving Hot Buttered Rum Runner, a delicious hot-buttered rum full of warmth and holiday spices and El Buho Mezcalbased in Brooklyn, serving The Night Owl, a holiday punch served with El Buho Mezcal made in Mexico mixed with Pickett’s Ginger Beer and seasonal fruit.
