WHITE WAVE hosts and produces its 2013 WAVE RISING SERIES featuring 21 companies/choreographers and 89 artists in 21 performances in its renowned three week festival. Selected by a panel led by WHITE WAVE’s Artistic Director Young Soon Kim, this series furthers our commitment to find, nurture and broaden horizons for extraordinary artists in a program formatted to show their in-depth work. Presenting both rising stars and established world-class companies from New York City and around the world, the WAVE RISING SERIES also functions as New York City Season for artists who may not have the time or resources to produce a full event on their own, and allows them to tap into a community of peers.
Featuring:
boomerang: “There is a “through the rabbit hole” effect that leaves us wondering about the ambiguity of human relationships and the fine line between theater and abstraction.” — Jill Sigman/thinkdance
Billy Bell / Lunge Dance Collective: Billy is a versatile dancer who has also performed the works of Jose Limon, Jiri Kylian, Sidi-Larbi Cherkaoui, and Hofesh Shechter.
Maria Gillespie / Oni Dance: “Gillespie’s growing repertory demonstrates a capacious gift for idiosyncratic movement invention that showcases unpredictability (both emotional and physical) as it trades on the dramatic implications of kinetic extremes.” — Los Angeles Times
Jacobs Campbell Dance: “Jacobs Campbell Dance perform big, physical dance very seriously, though the end result evoke music video, abstract and edgy” — Quinn Batson Offoffoff.com
Post-Show Artist Talk:
The Series will offer special Preview Nights on Wednesdays (Oct. 23, Oct. 30, Nov. 6) at 7:00 pm with 10-minute-snippets of the featured companies for each week, followed by a Q&A session and a reception that will give guests the chance to mingle and dance with the artists.
