FINANCIAL SERVICES SALT MANAGER

The Financial Services State and Local Tax Manager is responsible for the delivery of a full range of tax services for multiple clients in a wide variety of financial services related industries. These would include financial institutions, securities broker/dealers, stock exchanges or other electronic communications networks and alternative trading systems, hedge funds, private equity, regulated investment companies, asset managers, insurance companies. Responsibilities include interacting closely with clients to provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise; providing primary and secondary review of complex tax returns; developing and managing staff; and working closely with partners and staff on client management, practice development, and business development activities. The Financial Services SALT Manager is responsible for an assigned group of clients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.
-Manage, direct, and monitor multiple client services teams on client engagements; plan, execute, direct, and complete tax projects in a wide variety of industries; provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise to clients; and manage to budget.
-Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff on tax projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews.
-Deliver a full range of State and Local Tax services including tax return preparation and review, tax research, preparation of technical memorandums, drafting client correspondence, and counseling client in defending against state and local tax audits.
-Conduct primary and secondary review of complicated State and Local tax returns.
-Manage multi-disciplinary, multi-state reviews that analyze income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, valorem taxes, and others to identify optimal filing options, exemptions, credits and incentives, and corporate structures that can reduce the client’s tax burden.
-Develop a project vision and set challenging personal and client service team goals.
-Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, make sure deadlines are met, and lead change efforts effectively.
-Consult, work with, and service client to make recommendations on business and process improvement and serve as a business advisor to client.
-Work closely with partners, executive directors, managers, and staff to integrate practice development skills into a team approach to client service and new business development.
-Team with partners, executive directors and senior managers on proposals and business development calls.
-Maintain strong client relations and cross-sell services within the assigned group of clients.
-Recruit and retain senior associates and associates.
-Perform other job-related duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
-Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA, Masters in Taxation, LLM in Taxation, or JD.
-Five to seven years of progressive State and Local Tax consulting and/or compliance experience in public accounting or a combination of corporate and public accounting experience.
-Broad exposure to State and Local Taxes including knowledge in State Income/Franchise Tax, Credits and Incentives, Sales and Use Tax, with Property Tax a plus; must be eager to work on a variety of SALT issues and not specialize in one particular area.
-Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in US GAAP, tax compliance, corporate consolidated returns, and combined state tax returns.
-Ability to manage and develop staff in a highly interactive team environment.
-Practice development experience is preferred.
-Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment.
-Strong leadership, business development, recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
-Computer expertise including knowledge of tax software and technology.
-Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites.
