Chia-Ying Kao, recently selected to participate in the 2013 International Choreographers’ Residency at the American Dance Festival, will be presenting her newest work “Insides”, as part of the Triskelion Arts Split Bill series on December 12&15, 2013. “Insides”, which is inspired by the novel “The Knight in Rusty Armor”, physicalizes the intent and inner dialogue through which we define and examine ourselves. This work explores some of the common weaknesses within humanity – loneliness, anger and fear. The creative process, consisting of sharing personal experiences and free writing exercises, has not only allowed us to further explore our inner weaknesses, but also to push our minds and bodies to new limits. As we pair this inner dialogue with somatic movement, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of our own psychosomatic processes and the obstacles these processes can present in connecting ourselves to others.
