POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
William E. Macaulay Honors College is a flagship program for high-achieving students at The City University of New York. Located on the Upper West Side, Macaulay offers an exceptional academic and co-curricular environment for engaged and motivated students, who come from all parts of New York and around the world. Macaulay students enroll in one of seven CUNY colleges (Baruch, Brooklyn, City, Hunter, Lehman, Queens, and Staten Island). Through the unique Macaulay Advising Program (MAP) each student develops a coordinated, individualized academic program that includes research, global learning, graduate and professional mentoring, community engagement, and close faculty-student collaboration.
The Director of Communications and Marketing will be responsible for Macaulay Honors College’s branding and overall communications program, focusing on unifying MHC’s message across all formats, including public relations, media relations, publications and marketing collateral material, website design and content, graphic design, internal and external communications, and advertising. Reporting to the University Dean, the Director will develop, direct, and implement a strategic communications plan for all internal and external constituencies.
The duties and responsibilities of the position will include, but are not limited to:
- Manage and coordinate the communications and marketing needs of all departments within MHC.
- Create and implement a strategic external public relations and communications plan for MHC, including electronic newsletters, annual reports, speeches, and press releases; and respond to inquiries from print and other media in cooperation with CUNY Central to ensure consistent, positive, and regular public relations for MHC.
- Advise all departments and staff within MHC on communications and public relations issues.
- Oversee design and creation of all MHC editorial material, including Recruitment publications in cooperation with the MHC Director of Enrollment Management and the CUNY Central Office & Office of Admissions Services.
- Manage and train professional and administrative staff.
- Activities will include writing, editing, proofing, publication development, developing web content and management of web consultants, vendor oversight, marketing, and budget development.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including attendance at certain functions and events throughout the year.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s Degree and eight (8) years of related work experience in communications and marketing, or a combination of training and experience, required; an advanced degree is preferred. Experience in higher education or relevant nonprofit management is preferred. Experience must include the following formats: print and electronic; internal and external; online; advertising and marketing; marketing collateral; public relations. Experience managing and/or developing digital media required. Strong interpersonal and management skills, the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, proven effectiveness in working collaboratively, understanding and responsiveness to financial policies and budgetary planning, and ability to communicate effectively within a complex organization.
