Edelman’s research subsidiary, StrategyOne, seeks a Research Manager to sit in their New York office.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: The manager must have a Bachelor’s Degree in liberal arts, business, or economics with a minimum of 6+ years of analyst experience in competitive intelligence, business intelligence, market research, marketing or consulting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Advanced degree is strongly preferred in social science research, business, economics, finance or related area of study (e.g. MBA, MS, PhD).
· Experience working with Fortune 1000 companies on both quantitative and qualitative business analysis projects.
· Practical knowledge and expertise in strategic, economic, and financial analysis frameworks and models required and in utilizing Internet and advanced researching skills to gather information from public and private databases and news services.
· Ability to formulate practical solutions to loosely-defined business problems/objectives, successfully manages multiple projects concurrently, and synthesizes data into highly relevant business insights and forward-looking strategies.
· Familiarity with basic primary research methods, including (but not limited to) survey research, ethnographic research, basic statistical methods and techniques, including proper formulation of regression models and interpretation of regression analysis results.
· Expertise in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint, and familiarity with FrontPage and Visio.
· Possess strong team leadership abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort in leading client presentations.
· Marketing and brand management experience is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Collaborates with client managers and product development specialists to formulate research-centric solutions for internal/external client initiatives
· Performs major role in the research, planning, and development of comprehensive research programs
· Reviews and makes necessary adjustments to all formal project scope specifications and associated work estimates and schedules
· Writes research plans based on scope of work and client’s business objectives
· Provides leadership in understanding complex and varied information; help project teams synthesize that information into simple market/industry insight
· Leads project teams in forecasting expected behavior of client competitors based on information available in the public domain as well as an understanding of leadership styles of competitors’ key executives
· Leads project teams in identifying patterns in client competitor behavior from disparate actions and developing theories on future actions through pattern extrapolation
· Ensures all analyses and derived insights/strategic recommendations directly address documented client business objectives
· Reviews and makes necessary adjustments to all internal/external client deliverables prior to submission to account managers during the course of each project lifecycle
· Writes research papers and documents with expertise
· Superior editing skills for all client deliverables
· Understands key client information including general business strategy, products and services offered, and key customers
· Understands key client industry issues relating to products, product categories, technologies, primary competition and general issues facing the industry
· Understands general principles of business and marketing and the role of PR in the communications mix
· Understands quantitative and qualitative research and advanced terminology
· Leads project teams in developing knowledge about key players, markets, and technologies of the industries in which client companies compete
· Gathers and disseminates competitive intelligence on competitors within the industry on a regular basis
· Mentors project teams in proper utilization of quantitative and qualitative analytical frameworks/models, including (but not limited to) SWOT analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, Competing Hypotheses, Win-Loss Analysis, Scenario Planning
· Directly supervises 1-5 staff members
· Coaches and leads team to successful outcomes
· Provides ongoing performance related feedback, both positive and negative, in a forward looking, constructive manner
