Sunday 5/25 12-5pm
Union Square
We are honored to feature Liu Tsung-Jung (劉宗榮), an activist artist from Taiwan, who will present some of his art work as well as speak about his involvement in the Sunflower Movement 太陽花學運 in Taiwan.
This is also a BYA event – we invite and encourage you to bring your work that is activist or political in nature to share with everyone. Poetry, protest signs, films, songs – whether you are professional artist or not, we welcome you to come & share your story and your work!
An #Art4TW initiative
* If you have not heard of the Sunflower Movement, the Legislature Building in Taiwan was occupied from March 18th to April 10th to block a service trade agreement that would give China disproportional influence over the Taiwanese local economy. For more info: http://4am.tw/
This Occupation inspired Taiwanese artists everywhere – including in New York, where many artists also contributed their talents to lead efforts to support the Sunflower Movement in Taiwan. Liu Tsung-Jung (劉宗榮) was one of the Occupiers inside of the building where he made silk screen prints, signs, and paintings for fellow protesters.
