Straddling Art and Design Technology Exhibition:
The First New York – Taipei Zero Jet Lag Discussion
[New York] Thirteen Taiwanese artists have joined forces to create the [± 12 Zero Distance] exhibition in Chelsea’s RePopRoom Gallery, one of the first true Taiwanese and American collaborations. In addition to the exhibition, there will also be a symposium on site in addition to dynamic and static displays, so that people can enjoy the exhibition in diverse ways. All aspects of the show also take advantage of the internet to interact with Taipei eliminating the twelve hour time difference, which is the design concept of synchronous communication on which the entire exhibition is based.
The exhibition brings together thirteen pieces of graphic design, animated works, and interactive multimedia pieces, including the winner of 50 Golden Horse awards Amy Wen’s animation [Beyond], an interactive installation by artist Yu-Ting Feng called [Toast Bunny] which was first on display at Grand Central Terminal Station as well as in England and Portugal, and Taiwan’s Creative Advertising award-winning documentary by WenChing Li called [Human Spectrum Project]. Parsons the New School for Design’s department head Kyle Li has also been invited been invited to exhibit and offer guidance. The additional nine participants are: Li Wen Chang, Li Chung Chang, Yu-Yi Chen, Chiehping Chen, Crayon, Shiny Lee, Yi Ning Huang, Mennie Shen, and Chloe Huang. Each of the artists in America are going through a period of finding himself or herself, so the majority of the exhibition is related finding one’s self, courage in the face of a strange environment, creating one’s own path in life – another important central concept for this exhibition.
Exhibitors and industry professionals will be onsite to talk about and share their experiences and perspectives, taking advantage of colliding points of view to spark conversation. Through the interactions among different generations, we hope to generate new ideas and ways of thinking. For the planned WDC(World Design Capital)Taipei 2016 exhibition, videos from the symposium will be uploaded to the internet. Through technology, these videos will be shared between New York and Taipei.
The ” ± 12 Zero Distance” exhibition will be on display at the RePopRoom (527 W 29th St) starting June 6 through June 10. On June 6th, performers have been invited to inaugurate the exhibit with an opening dance performance and interactive space , welcome interested people to participate in the arts , communication and participation of people .
