On Friday, June 20, the annual Swedish Midsummer Festival will once again take place in Battery Park City in downtown Manhattan!
At this unique celebration, adults and children gather to picnic in the grass, decorate the midsummer pole, make flower wreaths, play traditional games and dance to authentic fiddle music.
The program will feature traditional music by Paul Dahlin and fiddlers from the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, folk dances from Barnklubben Elsa Rix and Swedish Folkdancers of New York, and pole dancing led by Scandinavian folklorist and singer Ross Sutter. Food stands will offer delicacies from some of New York’s finest Swedish restaurants and food purveyors, including FIKA NYC, Smorgas Chef, Crepe Du Nord, Gigino’s at Wagner Park, Red Rooster Harlem and Nordic Preserves.
The Swedish Midsummer Festival is presented by Battery Park City Parks Conservancy and co-hosted by the Consulate General of Sweden in New York.
