IRANIAN SHORTS PROGRAM
In response to the increasing activeness of a younger generation of Iranian filmmakers, the AAIFF puts together a shorts program of both submitted and solicited short films from Iran and US-based Iranian filmmakers in the hopes to contextualize the dynamics between the social milieu and the filmmaking practice in Iran. The eclectic collection consists of both narratives and documentaries and captures the social atmosphere throughout the one decade after the 1999 student protest – including the two prominent incidents: the 2004 execution of Atefah Sahaaleh, and the 2009 Iranian election. They also explore, with imaginative cinematic language, such themes as female experiences, and cross-cultural misunderstanding.
