Diwali, the Festival of Lights is the most significant festival for Asian Indians. Last year, thousands of people gathered from far and wide to celebrate Diwali in the heart of Times Square. The festive spirit radiated around Times Square with people in traditional attire lined up to showcase Indian cuisine, fashion and live performances from a wide array of celebrities. After the success of this landmark event last September, this year once again, Event Guru brings you Diwali at Times Square 2014 on September 20th. A prestigious press conference was held at the Indian Consulate in NY, hosted by the Honorable Consul General of India in New York, Mr. Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, to announce the launch of this exciting festival. “It is wonderful to see this event come back to Times Square this year again. It’s a glimpse into India’s largest festival and we are going to celebrate it with the world right here in New York City!” said Mr. Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay.
Once again, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation is the title sponsor of “Diwali at TimesSquare 2014”. “We are pleased to be back again to be part of this festival. This year Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation will showcase to the world Maharashtra’s rich culture, cuisine, pristine beaches, historical and natural heritage preserved for thousands of years” Managing Director of MTDC Dr. Jagdish Patil stated.
Diwali festivities will begin at noon and will include a wide variety of Indian food, dance classes, Indian arts and crafts, a fashion show, photo booths with ethnic outfits, celebrities and much much more. In the evening, Event Guru will be bringing a “Light up Times Square” Concert.
Event Guru and ASB Communications, the masterminds behind “Diwali at Times Square”, are organizing and managing the event. Neeta Bhasin, President and CEO of Event Guru and ASB Communications, said “We want to show the world how rich Indian culture and heritage is and how diversified India is. We couldn’t think of a better place than the center of the Universe – Times Square!” Mrs. Bhasin was also honored last night with a proclamation from the House of Representatives from New York’s 14th Congressional District by Congressman Joseph Crowley who also co-chairs the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans.
