Setsuko is a Japanese singer songwriter involved in Pop, R&B, jazz, theater, and classical. Born in Osaka, Japan on July 21st, 1985, Setsuko fell in love with music early in her childhood, and spent much of her adolescence singing and dancing for friends and relatives. While studying diet and nutrition in Osaka City University, Setsuko joined various clubs associated with both music and dance where she eventually found the motivation to pursue a professional career in music.
After gaining a small following in the university scene, Setsuko wrote her first Japanese language song “Catch the Future” at the age of 19. She then began booking performances for herself at local clubs in the Osaka area, while at the same time learning the fundamentals of music production and promotion. In July 2006, Setsuko produced and starred in her first solo performance at Flamingo the Arusha, one of Osaka’s premiere live venues.
In April 2010, Setsuko released her first professionally produced single “Shining Heart/Catch the Future”, and the release party was held at the prestigious Club Onzieme, which is one of the famous performance venues in Osaka.
Instead of focusing on the Japanese market, Setsuko decided that in order to achieve her dream of becoming a worldwide entertainer that she would have to set her sights higher. Setsuko’s last solo show in Japan was held in April 2011 at Laurence in Osaka, and in August 2011 she moved to New York City to establish herself professionally in the American and global markets.
