Sunday, August 24, 2014, 2:00 PM & 8:30 PM
Brooklyn Academy of Music Rose Cinemas
30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217
Directed by Chris Marker | 1993
Marker uses this tribute to Soviet filmmaker Aleksandr Medvedkin, his friend and a lifelong Marxist, as a launching point to explore the whole of 20th-century Russian history and communism. The result is “one of the key works of our time… Eloquent and mordantly witty in its poetic writing, beautiful and often painterly in its images… as moving and as provocative in many respects as Sans Soleil” (Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader).
