Located on the landscape between Sheep Meadow and the 72nd Street Cross Drive
This year, the free outdoor film series salutes New York with five movies that capture the City from a variety of angles. Tom Hanks scampers about FAO Schwarz in Big (Aug. 18); The Royal Tenenbaums presents Manhattan through Wes Anderson’s off-kilter looking glass (Aug. 19); Robert Redford’s smile casts a golden hue over the entire town in The Way We Were (Aug. 20), as does Bill Murray’s in Ghostbusters (Aug. 21); and saving the best for last, Jimmy Stewart’s telephoto lens catches all the sordid doings of his Greenwich Village neighbors inRear Window (Aug. 22). Screenings will be held just north of the Sheep Meadow (enter the park at West 72nd Street). It’s free, so bring a blanket and a picnic basket and come early to snag a good spot (gates open at 6:30pm; movies start at 8pm).
Friday, August 22: Rear Window 1954 (PG)
