Urban Momfare premiered to a sold-out house on Saturday night at the 2014 New York International Fringe Festival. Only four performances remain.
Why don’t we ever hear songs about moms not actually liking their kids? This romp through motherhood on Manhattan’s Upper East Side spans 17 years: “Music For Gifted and Talented Babies” to bra straps and Bellinis.
Book by Pamela Weiler Grayson and Alice Jankell, music and lyrics by Pamela Weiler Grayson, directed by Alice Jankell and musical direction by Clare Cooper. Urban Momfare is being produced by Emerging Artists Theatre Company (EAT). A workshop performance of the musical was previously presented at EAT’s New Work Series in March of 2013.
“What drew me to Urban Momfare was its great use of humor and humanity in a musical comedy,” said Emerging Artists Theatre’s Artistic Director Paul Adams. “I think everyone who sees it will identify with having known one of these people or may be one themselves.”
The production stars Tiffan Borelli (More Of Our Parts/The Kennedy Center), Antonietta Corvinelli (The Reunion/Hudson Guild), Sandi DeGeorge (Camelot/National Tour), Cheryl Howard (The Sensational Josephine Baker/Theatre Row), Christine Toy Johnson (The Music Man/Broadway), Christiana Little (The Bardy Bunch/Theatre at St. Clements) and Sarah Rosenthal (Ragtime/Broadway).
