Vietnam Heritage Center is a nonprofit organization, working towards the promotion of the rich history and traditions of Vietnam. VHC seeks to provide support for the Vietnamese immigrant community, while at the same time educating the general public and local community on Vietnamese language and culture. We strive to be a resource for all to learn about and celebrate Vietnamese lifestyle and customs.
VHC is organizing Tet Trung Thu/Vietnam Moon Festival, which takes place on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Foley Square Park. This is the first time that the Vietnamese community in New York City has an official celebration of our traditional Mid Autumn Festival. The Moon Festival happens on the 15th of August in lunar calendar, during a full moon. Originally, the festival was meant for everybody to celebrate a harvest season along with moon gazing and moon worship. Gradually, it has changed to be more of a festival for children.
For the first time, family and children in NYC will have an opportunity to learn about Vietnamese Moon Festival’s origin, folk tales and activities. This is one of our many efforts to introduce Vietnamese traditional values to the general public and local community.
