First major undertaking my a major museum on Chinese American spanning 195 years, from 1784 to 1979. Notable is a copy of a newspaper called the “Chinese American” published by Wong Chin Foo in 1883 in an attempt to abolish the racist Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. Ten years later, 80,000 Chinese Americans refused to register with the federal government in an act of civil disobedience. Artifacts from Chinese Historical Society of America in SF (www.chsa.org) as well as Museum of Chinese in America in NYC (www.mocanyc.org) comprise some 200 artifacts.
Photographs of Taishan Chinese American actress, Anna May Wong & a small number of photographs by Corky Lee are included.
Best viewing time for the exhibit is on Fridays bet. 6 & 8 PM closing time. Admission is “pay as you wish” or else it will cost $19/person, $15/seniors. Do note that the exhibit ends April 19, 2015, therefore one has plenty of time to view.
