Responsibilities include:
This position will bear primary responsibility for providing legal counsel and advice to CNIBR management in a wide spectrum of disciplines, including contracts, business decisions, corporate development employment, facilities, compliance and local law and regulations. Coordinates the provision of pro-active, business focused counsel and guidance to CNIBR scientific management on the legal aspects and business considerations of NIBR activities including such matters as business development (specifically licensing and strategic alliances) employee relations, litigation, general corporate and compliance activities. Reviews, evaluates and comments on legal obligations of the Company, and advises the appropriate function head of the degree of legal risk associated with major contracts and obligations prior to the CNIBR becoming a party or otherwise becoming legally bound. Advises CNIBR Management on the utilization of opportunities in the legal field for the further-ance and achievement of business goals and objectives. Keeps CNIBR Management informed on legislation and regulations and other important legal matters both local and global, any changes and update that could impact the CNIBR s business. Provides counsel and guidance on legal implications of corporate strategies, policies, procedures and programs. Converts Novartis strategies and policies into specific objectives for subordinate areas of responsibility and monitors the accomplishment of such objectives. Assists in the protection of the CNIBR assets by managing: (i) legal actions against third parties, (ii) adverse regulatory or governmental actions and (iii) defense of the CNIBR against claims made by third parties Coordinates with the Global General Counsel on matters of material importance to the Company. Acts as the CNIBR representative on the global functional coordinating body. Supports the Global General Counsel in matters concerning management support of the local legal staff of organizations within CNIBR, in particular, hiring, training, professional development, performance review and compensation of local staff. Qualifications:
Along with the ability and desire to permanently relocate to China, this position requires the following: Law school graduate 7+ years of experience in applicable legal disciplines, with an emphasis on Chinese laws and regulations with respect thereto Ability to analyze complex legal issues. Strong verbal & written communication skills in English and Chinese; together with a high ability to influence and negotiate. Proven ability to deal positively when working within tight time pressures & demanding clients. Demonstrate professional & culturally sensitive work ethic. Work in a team. Experienced with deal contract, research collaborations and CRO service agreement
