In conjunction with “Retrospective” by Xavier Le Roy, on view through December 1, 2014, Sunday Sessions presents a symposium that looks at the exhibition from a historical perspective and asks about possible impacts of the choreographic practice on the art institution. Influential choreographer and film maker, Yvonne Rainer, talks about her seminal work “Continuous Project- Altered Daily” (1969) one of the first choreographies made for a museum’s galleries. Laurence Rassel, who originally invited Le Roy to conceive of a work for the galleries at Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona speaks about the influence of “Retrospective” on her institution, audience, and curatorial thinking. Critical scholar Christophe Wavelet reports on the different iterations of “Retrospective” all over the world and reflects on the traveling of a show that has no objects and is done each time a new with local performers . All three speakers are joined by Xavier Le Roy for a concluding discussion.
