Straight off their successes in 2014, NYC’s Gamelan Dharma Swara will be performing at (Le) Poisson Rouge, Time Out NY’s 2014 Best Music Venue, February 8th 2015 at 7.30pm. $15adv/$20door.

After provoking “perhaps the weekend’s most rapturous response (including a fair amount of crying)” (The New Yorker) at Basilica Soundscape last year, NYC’s Gamelan Dharma Swara will perform their first gig of 2015 at (Le) Poisson Rouge. The performance will feature the North American premiere of “Geregel,” a groundbreaking gamelan work by leading Balinese composer Dewa Ketut Alit.

Geregel’s radical uses of dissonance, polyrhythm, and polymodality are a revolution in contemporary gamelan aesthetics, and singlehandedly set new standards for what gamelan music is and can be. The work’s North American premiere shares a program with other exciting recent works by living composers and traditional Balinese music and dance pieces.
