SUNRISE FEST is the Annual All-Day Memorial Festival for the Victims of the Japan’s Earthquake/Tsunami attacked on March 11th 2011.
The next day after the disaster, over 30 artists got united together in the Union Square Station of NYC not only to call for donation but to let them know what was really going on in Japan by performing, singing, and dancing.
That was the beginning of SUNRISE FEST.
Although we, the Japanese people, comparing to the other nations, are very passive to unify and show love for own own country, that day had changed us so dramatically that we could have gathered together just to help and support our people and motherland.
However, as time goes by, it is true that the bond has gradually been getting weaker and those, especially who had not been attacked by the disaster directly, seem to be forgetting the tears and the struggle.
In order to keep ourselves connected to the strong bond we have created, Stairway to the Dream Ent has been running this festival annually since then.
More than supporting those victims financially as a benefit, we would like this festival to be an opportunity for all the Japanese people to keep unifying, loving, and moving forward for Japan, and we would like to show how we face our own country as the good model to all the children who will live and take the next generation.
All the proceeds will be donated to a school in Fukushima, Japan named “TOYO GAKUEN” (http://ffk.jp/toyoyouth/).
The donations have been used for repair of buildings and for fun family events such as dinner parties.
The main purpose of doing SUNRISE FEST is not to forget the disaster, to keep united as we did when the disaster happened years ago, and to keep appreciating those bonds of friendship Japan could have made with everyone in this generation.
Although there were many problems came up after the Earthquake such as the Nuclear issues, we will not presume to hold up those issues to relate to this festival.
Instead, we will simply have this Festival as “A Day for You & Japan” in order for the people to feel and think about 3.11 and Japan.
