On January 26, Upper West Side Indian restaurant Savoury will celebrate Republic Day, India’s national holiday honoring the day the Constitution of India came into force in 1947 (the year India gained full independence from British rule). Chef/Owner Lala Sharma will serve a special Anglo-Indian menu to pay homage to this culinary style that resulted from British rule. Dishes will include classics likeMulligatawny Soup and mains like Railway Mutton Curry—lamb curry cooked with onion, ginger, tomatoes and house-made garam masala. A full menu is below.
The menu will be served as a three-course dinner prix fixe. All entrees will include Papadum, Basmati rice, freshly baked naan (rosemary or regular), mango chutney and onion relish. Additionally, each meal will include a complimentary glass of wine, beer or another drink of choice.
