Korean & Chinese Food Tour with food writer Joe DiStefano
Downtown Flushing is the most vibrant and diverse Chinatown in New York City offering a wealth of regional Chinese cookery from the fiery fare of Sichuan, the Silk Road-inflected cuisine of Xi’an, as well delicate dumplings from Tianjin. It’s also a hotbed of Korean cuisine with BBQ restaurants, sweet potato vendors, markets that sell everything from the blood sausage known as soondae to acorn pudding along with several varieties of kimchi. Lately Korean and Chinese cultures have been intermingling with restaurants and hawker stands from Yanbian and Shenyang China where both Chinese and Korean specialties—like kimchi pork buns and cumin-scented lamb skewers—can be had. Explore the delicious intersection of these two food cultures with a tour led by Queens-based food writer Joe DiStefano. The tour starts at 5 PM and ends at Flushing Town Hall at 7:30 PM followed by the performance at 8 PM.
