Please join AAPIP-NY for a special event on the role of giving circles in transforming philanthropy and AAPI communities in the region.
Did you know that less than 0.4% of all foundation dollars go to Asian American and Pacific Islander communities? Giving Circles offer opportunities for groups of volunteers to develop resources and provide grants together as well as build social networks, leadership skills, and shared learning.
In 2011, AAPIP launched a five-year National Giving Circle Campaign, building a movement to increase investments to the AAPI community, develop leadership among AAPI professionals, and attract and engage new donors. The New York region is home to three diverse and active giving circles – the Asian Women Giving Circle, The Dinner Guys, and the Asian American Impact Fund.
The conversation will reflect on questions such as:
How giving circles can be transformative for individuals, grantees, and the field of philanthropy
Successes and challenges of starting and sustaining giving circles
Opportunities to get involved, support, or collaborate with giving circles
The role of NY giving circle in AAPIP’s national movement for democratic philanthropy
Speakers/Panelists: (in alphabetical order)
Jen Chiou, Asian American Impact Fund
Hali Lee, Asian Women Giving Circle
