Exhibition Statement
Cynthia Lin uses “people” as her creative transformation carrier in this solo exhibition, Transformation & Variation. The modern media is used as a tool to “measure” the multiple aspects of art. She therefore transforms images and symbols to the “vocabulary” of art. By means of writing on the subject, she uses x-ray films titled The Basic, installation art with acrylic sheets, Connection, and 12-work-collection made of composite material titled People. All of these works correspond to the theme—people. The characters in People expose the roles modern people play as an introduction of the exhibition and employ many signs, symbols and words to rewrite and record our time. In the installation art work Connection, the artist begins with “people” and shifts to the effects of technology on globalization. The airport code on each acrylic sheet is more than just the abbreviation of major airports. It bears a profound meaning of connecting the world. Therefore, the artist starts from “people” to the “world”¸ and then goes back from the “world” to the “essence”. The human body x-ray film The Basic is the artist’s philosophical exploration of life.
