The Taipei Economic And Cultural Office In New York
1 East 42nd Street, New York (USA), New York 10017

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, organized by the Education Division, is presenting the “One World, Different Strokes” group illustration exhibition. This two-week exhibition (May 16 to 28) brings together fourteen of New York’s most experienced Taiwanese-American illustrators as well as currently enrolled or recently graduated Taiwanese students from America’s top art schools. Through different creative themes (fashion, travel, fantasy, character design), mediums (watercolor, oil painting, digital, video) and markets (animation, graphic novels, picture books, stationery, decorative wall art), these illustrators demonstrate diverse, lively, and everyday sides of the illustration field.
The biggest difference between illustration and fine art is that illustration is a form of commercial art: its aesthetics applies to everyday life. It has to perform certain functions and convey information to its target audience. It needs to take into account the practical and the aesthetic. This information is carried through newspapers, magazines, books, merchandise, and the internet into public life. This group illustration exhibition not only provides a rich visual feast, but also gives the public deeper understanding and greater insight into the illustration industry.
