LA SALADA is a patchwork depicting the experience of new immigrants in Argentina told through three stories that take place in La Salada, the largest informal market in Argentina. A group of characters from different ethnic origins struggle against loneliness and uprooting. The first story explores the dynamic between a Korean father, Mr. Kim, and his daughter, Yun-jin. Both very traditional and conservative individuals, they are in the midst of preparing for Yu-jin’s arranged marriage; however, she is unsure of whether or not she really wants it. The second story introduces a young Bolivian man named Bruno who comes to Argentina seeking a job and the chance to settle down. Searching for guidance, he meets a Taiwanese man who sells illegal DVDs, lives alone, and whose family lives in Taiwan. In his own tale, the Taiwanese man looks for a girlfriend to share his lonely nights with.
