The Center for Korean Research and the C.V. Starr East Asian Library present the unveiling of Ko Hui-dong’s renowned landscape painting “Kumgang 5 Che” to take place on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Columbia University. Hosted by the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALAC), with the co-sponsorship of the Korean Cultural Service New York and the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, the event will bring leaders of the Korean community in New York City to celebrate the newly restored painting given to the Library by the Columbia Korean Students Group in 1930. The event will feature opening remarks by the Consul General Gheewhan Kim, Jim Cheng, Director of Starr Library, and Haruo Shirane, Chair of EALAC. Professor Sunglim Kim of Dartmouth College will speak on the history of the painting; Vasare Rastonis and Eleanor Hyun will speak on the restoration process. A reception will follow the talks. The event is open to the public.
