Celebrating German romanticism, Orpheus opens its 2015-2016 season with Mendelssohn’s Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, inspired by Shakespeare’s fanciful tale. A premiere by recent Grawemeyer Award-winner Wolfgang Rihm follows, written especially for Orpheus and award-winning soloists Jan Vogler and Mira Wang. The orchestra also performs Schumann’s Symphony No. 2, a surprisingly uplifting work that reflects on the composer’s triumph over a bout of depression.
