Founded in 1982, the New York Asian Women’s Center is the first organization on the East Coast to address the issues of domestic violence in the Asian communities. With the only 24-hour multi-lingual hotline and shelter program for battered Asian women, the Center provides counseling and advocacy to Asian battered women, children who have witnessed domestic violence.
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, including but no limited to accounts payables, cash receipts; liaison with vendors; process Expense Requests; manage fiscal petty cash funds; review and process program petty cash funds; reconcile and record company credit card transactions. Process semimonthly payroll and manage timesheets, assist in maintaining HR online database. Work with Fiscal Director in preparation of year-end closing and annual audit, prepare balance sheet accounts analysis; prepare and post journal entries including monthly salary journal as needed. Answer staff questions regarding fiscal matters and ensure procedures are followed; produce monthly expense reports to senior program supervisors. Administer online Premium TransitChek program; client metro cards distributions, client emergency grants, and agency cell phones. Prepare claims and reports for assigned government and private funders; work closely with assigned funding agencies to collect grant monies; assist Fiscal Director in contract management and budget developing. Process Credit card donations online; reconcile event income with development dept; prepare invoice to donors upon request. Maintain fiscal records and vendor contracts; assist in processing service contracts and insurance policy renewals; handle other fiscal clerical tasks as needed. Other fiscal duties/projects as assigned by Fiscal Director or Executive Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; at least 3 years bookkeeping or related accounting experience; Non-profit sector and grant accounting experience is strongly preferred
Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks; reliable and organized
Proficient in using accounting software and MS Excel and MS Word
Good writing and communication skills
Bilingual in English and an Asian language is preferred
