Our 9th Annual festival closes with a special feature presentation of Vera Brunner-Sung’s elegant BELLA VISTA.
Vera Brunner-Sung’s first feature follows the experiences of outsiders in Missoula, Montana. American English language instructor Doris (Kathleen Wise) imparts lessons of assimilation to her international students in the classroom. But in her off-hours she is adrift, treading a fine line between solitude and loneliness. As her students find friendship and community, Doris discovers her own true identity in the secrets of the vast Western landscape. Winner of the George C. Lin Emerging Filmmaker Award at the 15th San Diego Asian Film Festival.
Vera Brunner-Sung (writer/director/producer) has shown her short experimental documentaries at festivals, galleries, and museums around the world, including the Torino Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, San Francisco International Film Festival, CPH:DOX, MoMA PS1, Images Festival, Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, and Los Angeles Filmforum. She holds an M.F.A. in Film/Video from the California Institute of the Arts, and is assistant professor at The Ohio State University.
