Dispersion, filmed in the highlands and along the coast of Iceland, is a short film by visual artist Joan Perlman about transformation and the passage of time. Glacial ice fragments float in a lagoon near the Atlantic ocean, their shifting light and colors shaped by wind, temperature and water. Real-time movement and dissolution in nature is experienced through a non-verbal narrative of imagery and sound. Perlman’s field recordings of melting ice comprise the soundtrack designed in collaboration with Steven Dye. Dispersion is a meditation on the fragility of memory and matter, and loss in the human and natural worlds.
