Twice this fall over 1,000 people marched from Chinatown and the Lower East Side to City Hall demanding Mayor de Blasio take a stand against racism and displacement, and pass the Chinatown Working Group Rezoning Plan. The Mayor responded saying he would send a representative on his behalf, but he did not.
We urge everyone to join us at a Town Hall Meeting to mobilize for a citywide rally. We are making a last effort to invite the Mayor to face our community and answer the community’s demands: why he refuses to pass the Chinatown Working Group Rezoning Plan, why Chinatown and Lower East Side cannot get equal protection as the East Village, and why he continues to endorse the 421-a tax giveaway to developers like Extell, which are displacing low-income families and people of color.
