The New York Classical Players is proud to present a program which showcases the collaborative musicianship that each member brings to the ensemble. Opening the program is Schubert’s Quartettsatz, a dynamic single movement for string quartet, in a transcription for chamber orchestra which requires razor-sharp precision, superlative ensemble and a heightened sense of drama. In contrast to this brevity is the sprawling and romantic Enescu Octet, that composer’s Romanian answer to the octet of Felix Mendelssohn. Highlighting the artistic depths that can be reached through a musical life spent in the study of chamber music, this concert also includes Schumann’s Cello Concerto as performed by Peter Wiley of the Guarneri Quartet.
SCHUBERT / Quartettsatz
SCHUMANN / Cello Concerto
ENESCU / String Octet (String Orchestra version)
