Visit third generation master urushi artist Gen Saratani in the Artist Studios as he demonstrates the traditional Japanese art of Kintsugi. Kintsugi involves repairing broken pottery using urushi lacquer in a way that embraces the beauty in imperfection. This process is incredibly time intensive and requires patience and skill. Mr. Saratani is the only traditionally trained urushi artist working full-time in the United States, so this program offers a unique and rare opportunity for visitors to watch this traditional technique unfold. Perfect for visitors of all ages!
