Queens Theatre is launching its winter and spring 2016 season with a dynamic array of presentations, featuring the acclaimed Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, the return of Che Malambo, a hilarious murder mystery – Murder for Two (in which two actors play 13 roles!) – and a series of shows based on beloved children’s books, including Curious George.

If you have not discovered Queens Theatre yet, this is the perfect season to be entertained and to fall in love with all that we have to offer!”

The Theatre Series – which last fall presented To Kill a Mockingbird – will include a thrilling adaptation of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Aquila Theatre Company, as well as the hilarious murder mystery musical, Murder for Two. In the Dance Series, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company will make their Queens Theatre debut, and audience favorite Che Malambo will return to the stage.

The Family Series features shows based on beloved children’s books, Henry and Mudge and Curious George: The Golden Meatball. The Series also will include the return of the innovative Lightwire Theater with their newest production, Moon Mouse.

Queens Theatre is located at 14 United Nations Avenue South in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, directly under the iconic towers of the New York State Pavilion, and is easily accessible by car, bus and subway. Tickets for Queens Theatre’s Dance and Theatre Series start at just $25 for rear-seating, regular seating is $42. Family Series tickets are $12.

The legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, takes the stage in this witty, fast paced production by the acclaimed Aquila Theatre. The clever Holmes skillfully maneuvers the twisted web of London’s most intriguing cases with his split second deductions revealing intimate and useful details of a person’s life. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s vivid characters jump from the page weaving a tale of mystery, suspense and intrigue. Doyle, in addition to being a renowned author, was a physician and he infused Holmes with terrific skills in forensic science and logical reasoning. 125 years after his debut, Sherlock Holmes remains the definitive and most famous detective in world literature. The Aquila Theatre brings its energetic and physical style to this new adaptation. With actors drawn from the top British and American stages, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a thrilling and memorable ride.

The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company was born out of an 11-year collaboration between Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane (1948-1988). During this time, they redefined the duet form and foreshadowed issues of identity, form and social commentary that would change the face of American dance. The Company has performed worldwide in over 200 cities in 40 countries on every major continent and is recognized as one of the most innovative and powerful forces in the dance-theater world.

The Argentine dance company Che Malmabo excites audiences through precise footwork and rhythmic stomping, drumming of the bombos, and singing and whirling boleadoras (lassos with stones on the end). Presenting a thrilling, percussive dance and music spectacle, the company’s work celebrates the unique South American cowboy tradition of the gaucho. This powerhouse all-male company of 14 gauchos is directed by French choreographer and former ballet dancer, Gilles Brinas.

Set in the beginning of the 20th century, Medardo takes us back to the fascinating short life of the poet from Ecuador Medardo Ángel Silva. The mysterious artist was well known for his deep and passionate poetry, his attraction to death, his struggle with the hypocritical and conservative society he lived in and his mysterious suicide. This is the U.S. Film Premiere. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles. After the screening, audiences can enjoy a talkback session with Lupita Ferrer, Julio Ortega and other cast members.
