Project Connect Coordinator

Project Description: Project Connect is a program created by Apicha Community Health Center to improve health outcomes for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and intersex (LGBTQI) Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities throughout New York City. Project Connect’s goals are to: 1) Increase access and improve the quality of health and human services to LGBTQI Asian &Pacific Islanders; 2) Address homophobia and raise awareness of and support for LGBTQI Asian &Pacific Islanders; and 3) Empower LGBTQI Asian &Pacific Islanders individuals and families, thereby, improving their overall health and well-being.
Position Summary: The Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating all aspects of the programs and services offered through Project Connect which includes monthly health and wellness workshops, a youth mentorship for empowerment program, and LGBTQI Asian &Pacific Islanders sensitivity trainings to health and human service providers.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
• Market and promote Project Connect to the LGBTQI API community to ensure that programs and
services are appropriate, well-branded and reflective of the needs of the community;
• Recruit and retain a core group of mentors to provide a safe-space and supportive community for
youth to discuss their identities as both API and LGBTQI;
• Facilitate a series of informal roundtable discussions with volunteer mentors and young LGBTQI
participants covering a wide range of topics (i.e., building supportive networks and self-esteem,
coming out to family members and in the workplace);
• Develop a year-long health and wellness workshop curriculum that helps LGBTQI API adults build
important skills around healthy relationships and self-care as well as receive information about
culturally competent resources in the LGBTQI community;
• Conduct outreach to other community-based organizations to raise awareness of the unique needs of
the LGBTQI API community and increase capacity to serve this population;
• Conduct on-going quality assurance and evaluation activities to ensure that Project Connect is
reaching its intended audience and meeting its outlined goals;
• Timely submission of project reports and data entry as required by funder;
• Represent Project Connect as well as APICHA Community Health Center at various health fairs and
other community events;
• Any other activities as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with minimum work experience equivalent to 1 year of full-time work experience
or high school diploma/GED and work experience equivalent to 3 years of full-time work experience.
• Familiarity with LGBTQI A&PI issues;
• Ability to work in diverse cultural environments;
• Excellent written and verbal English communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in one or more A&PI languages preferred.
• Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in multi-disciplinary environment.
• Creative, independent team player capable of working within an organizational structure.
• Ability to use common office software: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
• Ability to use public transportation.
