VOLTA Art Fair
Pier 90, West 50th Street at 12th Avenue, New York, New York NY 10036
VOLTA NY is the invitational fair of solo artist projects, which was founded in 2005. VOLTA NY showcases relevant contemporary art positions from emerging international artists, from cutting-edge trendsetters to next year’s rising stars. By spotlighting artists through primarily solo projects, VOLTA NY refocuses the art fair experience back to its most fundamental point: the artists and their works.
This year Nunu Fine Art is bringing their Taiwanese video artist Hsu Che-Yu with his latest work “Microphone Test Series” to show in Volta NY at Booth E12. His video art work is also selected in the Video Wall Program, which will be played in the Public Video Wall during 2-3pm & 5-6pm.
Che-Yu’s artworks are mostly adapted from reality, it could be news, history, or personal memory, from which he creates a male and a female animated model to play as the main characters in different stories.
The inspiration is originally from a Taiwanese media company called ”Apple Daily”, known for its’ animated news. “Apple Daily” represents each news story exaggerated so the audience could easily absorb the content. Although the exaggerated animation does attract a large audience, the content is actually not true to reality, causing an opposite effect from the initial purpose. Nowadays, while watching the animated news representing a murder or rape, viewers are expecting “entertainment” and “excitement” which has nothing to do with reality anymore.
