Composer-in-Residence Esa-Pekka Salonen discusses Karawane, his first major work in recent years, co-commissioned by the New York Philharmonic. This homage to Hugo Ball’s poem “Karawane” and the spirit of Dada, the radical art movement founded 100 years ago, addresses the question of meaning in music.
