49 W. 45th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues), 11th floor, New York, NY
In response to the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear meltdown in Northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, New York-based Japanese jazz pianist Senri Oe performed a benefit concert in Hawaii and donated the profits to Rainbow for Japan Kids, an NPO that provides aid and support to children who were orphaned and negatively impacted by the disaster.
To observe the fifth anniversary of 3/11, Oe will return to Honolulu to hold “Hana Hou! (Encore!)” on May 4 and 5 with friends singer/songwriter Junko Yagami; Miki Orihara, principal dancer of Martha Graham Dance Company; MANOA DNA, a Hawaiian trio; ukulele duo Honoka & Azita; and singer/songwriter Misa Ogasawara.
Prior to going to Hawaii, Oe will host his “Satoyama Concert,” a solo piano performance at the Japanese American Association of New York. In a spin-off of his Hawaii charity concert, Oe will pay beautiful Japanese-specific melodies blended with his jazz solo arrangements.
Oe will donate 100% of the profits to Rainbow for Japan Kids to continue helping the NPO bring children from Tohoku to Hawaii for group activities.
Admission: $25/$15 seniors and children under 12
